About
Emilia Kwiatkowska-van Dijk is an abstract artist working with mixed media, exploring the relationship between material, structure, and emotional experience.
Her work is rooted in tactile processes – layering textiles, pigments, and raw materials to create surfaces that carry both physical and conceptual depth. Through this approach, she investigates the tension between softness and strength, fragility and resilience, control and spontaneity.
Many of her works emerge from personal experience, particularly moments of transition – motherhood, identity shifts, and the evolving nature of connection. Rather than depicting these experiences directly, the works translate them into material form, where meaning is built through layers, accumulation, and subtle contrasts.
Her ongoing series The Future Is Now reflects on early motherhood, where time, identity, and emotional states shift simultaneously. The works explore the coexistence of opposing experiences – joy and exhaustion, connection and fragmentation – capturing moments that are both intense and formative.
Alongside personal series, Emilia creates commissioned works in dialogue with architectural spaces and interiors. These pieces extend her practice into environments where art interacts with atmosphere, function, and identity.
Her work exists between the intimate and the spatial – connecting personal narratives with broader structures, where material becomes a language for understanding experience.
